Mosh on the Radio’s band for this week are Montreal based Thrash/Heavy Metal band Trainwreck Architect. Eric, their bassist took time to answer our questions.
How long have you been playing together?
Eric: Our guitarist Raza and vocalist Simon have been jamming together off and on since high school days and have played in various bands together. When starting a new band around the summer of 2009, they met lead guitarist Renaud through a friend and I came in shortly after answering a bass player wanted ad on craigslist they posted. We recruited another drummer who left the band in 2010, and our current drummer Marc then joined late 2010.
What makes you different than the millions of other bands across the globe hoping to make it?
Eric: We’re just real guys making real music. We don’t try to stick to one genre, we all have completely different tastes and influences which blend together really well I find. We try not to take ourselves too seriously. We don’t have any gimmicks, we just do what we do.
What is your local metal scene like?
Eric: I think Montreal is one of the best and most booming places in the world in terms of the metal scene. So many great, classic bands have come from here like Voivod, Cryptopsy, Kataklysm and others. There are tons of local metal bands and there is usually a show on any night of the week. The scene is very friendly and supportive while being competitive at the same time.
Do your lyrics have any concepts or themes within them?
Eric: We write about our life, our experiences. We try not to get too metaphorical or ‘fantasy’ like. We just write about what we know and if people can relate to that, then that’s awesome.
What was the last album you bought?
Eric: The last album I bought was the new Clutch album, ‘Earth Rocker’ and the new album from Tame Impala called Lonerism. Both great albums.
Is there an album that inspired you to join a band?
Eric: Not a particular album, no. But going to see Aerosmith as a 13 year old kid changed my life. I was also heavily into Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath and Metallica as a kid so those bands have all influenced me in some way or another.
If you could trade places with another musician for a day, who would it be and why?
Eric: Anyone who is doing it. Travelling the world, seeing different Countries, meeting different people, that’s the dream. So anyone who’s doing that is someone I’d like trade places with.
Do you have any new material coming out?
Eric: Our first full length album ‘Traits of the Sick’ is scheduled for release this Summer. It’s currently being mastered by the great Jeff Watters of Annihilator and he is also doing a guest solo on the album! Stay tuned.
Why should people check out your band?
Eric: Anyone who’s into real people and real music that comes from the heart will enjoy our band. No gimmicks, no bulls**t, just us making the music we love to play.
Any last words for our listeners?
