Band of the week: Trillion Red

Trillion Red
Trillion Red Patrick

Mosh on the Radio’s band for this week is solo artist/multi-instrumentalist Patrick Brown of San Francisco based Trillion Red.

How long have you been playing together?
Patrick: I’ve been playing with myself for a long time. Since the age of about 12 approx.

What makes you different than the millions of other bands across the globe hoping to make it?
Patrick: You cannot define my music. It is truly new and original without being bizarre or too experimental. I don’t clone a style or a band. I bring you something new that will challenge you.

I am more hoping that my music is ‘realized’ to the extent that it inspire as many people as possible, rather than making it. I don’t see my type of music being commercially viable to ‘make it’, or at least I don’t count it.

What is your local metal scene like?
Patrick: The Bay Area is thriving with a lot of different Metal acts, be it Death, Thrash, Experimental etc…. A lot of it is clone retro stuff that isn’t interesting, but there is some great stuff as well, just not that much of it. But the scene is quite big in the East Bay.

Do your lyrics have any concepts or themes within them?
Patrick: Yes, the transience of all matters in our lives be it death, violence and/or happiness. Human blindness, mental prisons, cultural retardation, destruction, and a host of other things that I observe in our world.

What was the last album you bought?
Patrick: Old Forgotten Lands – Primal

Is there an album that inspired you to join a band?
Patrick: In my case, I have been in and out of musical projects since 1992. I would say historically, older early 90’s Death Metal and Black Metal bands inspired me to write and be in projects that create music.

If you could trade places with another musician for a day, who would it be and why?
Patrick: A really rich musician that doesn’t deserve the success he or she has received. I could then transfer all their money to my bank account that day!

Do you have any new material coming out?
Patrick: I have had a new EP just released in February 2013 called ECHO ROAD. A few months prior, I released a full length album titled Metaphere.

Why should people check out your band?
Patrick: As I previously stated, Trillion Red offers something truly new and different. I don’t do retro or throw back anything, as well as clone my influences. The music is very heavy and dark. If those are 3 things that attract you, definitely check out my new EP and buy it! The packaging is custom made by me and limited to only 150 copies for only $5!

Any last words for our listeners?
